Olugbenga Agboola is considered a leader in the tech space. He’s an entrepreneur, founder, CEO, Certified Ethical Hacker, and much more. Throughout his long, successful career, Agboola has worked on several important projects for many well-known financial organizations, such as PayPal and Standard Bank. Today, Olugbenga is the CEO and founder of Flutterwave, a financial services provider headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria. The company, which also has operations in San Francisco, is a digital payments infrastructure that helps banks and other companies process secure payments.
Flutterwave was founded in 2016 by co-founders Agboola and Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, including a prestigious team of professionals from the payments, technology, and banking industries. These specialists had experience working at several reputable companies, including Andela, Google Wallet, Standard Bank, and PayPal. With Olugbenga Agboola’s hardworking mentality and the many skills this team brought to the table, success was sure to follow.
When the company was formed in 2016, Agboola worked as the company’s Chief Technology Officer. The other founder, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, was the organization’s CEO. However, just a few years later, in 2018, Olugbenga took over the job. Aboyeji stepped down to focus on spending time with his family and giving back to the start-up community that helped build his career. Agboola became the new Flutterwave CEO on October 14th, 2018.
Aside from this executive role, Olugbenga Agboola is also a well-known entrepreneur and Financial Technology Engineer. But that’s not all—Olugbenga is a Certified Security Analyst, Microsoft Certified System Engineer, and Certified Ethical Hacker. Furthermore, Agboola has experience with technology solution product development and holds a background in software engineering. Olugbenga Agboola has helped numerous fintech companies and financial institutions with the development of fintech solutions. He has worked with several well-known clients, including Standard Bank and PayPal.
Prior to starting his career in tech and entrepreneurship, Olugbenga Agboola completed a Master of Business Administration degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the Sloan School of Management in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Additionally, he received standard IT security certifications from EC-Council University in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While Olugbenga already had several academic accomplishments, he wasn’t finished learning. That said, he also earned his Project Management and Advanced Computing degree from the University of Westminster in London, England. Lastly, Agboola received yet another master’s degree, this time in behavioral engineering and information technology security.
Throughout his career, Olugbenga has held positions with PayPal, Standard Bank, British Telecom Professional Services, Residence at Africa Fintech Foundry, and many more organizations. One of his most notable achievements came when he joined the Enterprise Infrastructure Solution Development team at Guarantee Trust Bank. He held the role from 2005 to 2009.
Another top achievement for Agboola was when he joined the Young African Leaders Initiative at the Young African Leaders Initiative Network. He’s also a member of the board of directors for the Corporate Council on Africa, and he’s the Chairman of the Board at the Great Ife Alumni Association Inc., a group of graduates and associates from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria.
